Fishing has been a real mixed bag this past week or two. Chatton Lake offered the most consistent fishing but Dunnydeer started to come good on Tuesday, when the Codgers had their monthly get together. Robbie Bell, John Pringle and Rob Frame sharing 36 fish for their day, mostly off Dunnydeer.
There has been a lot of big fish caught these past few days with Hugh Kempson’s 9lb rainbow the biggest we know of. An awful lot of fish in the 4-8lb range have come out, with some catching several in one session.
Winds have generally been from the west meaning the far end of each lake has been the best bet as fish built up on the windward shores.
The hotspots were all three fingers on Chatton Lake and the far grassy bank on Dunnydeer.
After heavy rain, Ross Lake has been coloured but started showing signs of coming good on Tuesday. It may be worth a go over Christmas as it has been lightly fished compared to the other lakes.
Sunday’s Eddie Brown competition was fished in atrocious conditions with Brian Lillie taking top spot with an outstanding performance. David Parker and Glenn Appleby were 2nd and 3rd, with 16 year old Owen Palmer narrowly missing out after getting off to a great start. Fantastic effort lads!
On Saturday, Stephen Medley had 15 in a lesson with Stuart Ingledew Fly Fishing and Allan Goodwill did very well to get 14 on a day others struggled.
Most of the comments for the bigger catches involved going deep. Indicator 10-11ft down or Di-5 lines left to sink for 20 seconds and flies retrieved ultra slow. Snakes have been very consistent inched back, but Cats Whiskers, Egg Flies and Apps Worms have done well, especially later in the week when a few fish did move higher in the water.
It’s nice to see Buzzers catching as well, with Jed Armstrong, Willie Emery and John Pringle all using them successfully.
