Fishing at Chatton is on fire. Highlight of an incredible week was Mark Watts Jr. landing a 14lb Brown Trout. Mark caught the huge fish on a Black Zonker fished slowly on a floating line. Ross Lake the location. Very well done Mark!
Allan Goodwill had a big brown trout estimated at 9-10lb, so they seem to be waking up. David Parker had some day, catching 32 fish on many different flies, the most successful being a Sunken Daddy on sink tip. What a superb day Davie. Very well done!
Also among the fish was traditionalist Gary Cunningham, who landed 22 including a 10lb Rainbow. Gary fished Chatton Lake and Dunnydeer and used a Slushy under the bung for the bulk of his catch, although he had fish on all flies and all methods, including FABs, Snakes and Wotsits. He also had fish coming to a floating Daddy. Top angling Gary!
Glenn Appleby and Dean Appleby successfully used Eggstasy flies under the bung for a brilliant combined catch of 34. Well done lads!
The numbers of fish being caught have gone skyward this past few days and we’ve just stocked again, so it is reasonable to expect fireworks this coming week as well. Not only with the numbers, but also the sizes. There are an awful lot of big fish swimming around and many anglers continue to report multiple fish in the 4lb to 8lb bracket. There are plenty of other surprises as well.
With the forecast for the week ahead, this really is a great time to fish Chatton. We’ll no doubt be crying our eyes out over storms and freezing temperatures over the winter, so get along while the going is good! This is going to be a VERY good week.
While indicators and lures have been by far the most successful methods, naturals are very definitely still an option. This week we’ve had the unusual sight of flying Corixa, which have been causing occasional splashy rises when they’ve been skating. There have also been sparse hatches of small to medium midge coming off and quite a few end of season dragonflies.
We’ve had Seth’s Agri Services in to give the fishery a pre-winter haircut. Thanks for your work Seth. No doubt the anglers will be pleased there is a little less gorse to get stuck in!
Over on the bait lake, three fish limits continue to be the most common return and we’ve just stocked again. A reminder that gutting on the bank is not allowed. You will be asked to leave if seen doing this. Can we also ask that anglers have a priest to kill their fish immediately ? Landing nets must be used to bring all fish in and all fish must be killed prior to unhooking.
So there we have it. The best week since April’s beetle mania and we’re expecting it to improve. Get the rods out and pay us a visit.
Finally a few points for the less regular angler:
- No need to book to fish Chatton. Just turn up on the day at your chosen time and buy the ticket for the hours you want. You can buy kill tickets or catch and release.
- You DO NOT need a rod licence to fish at Chatton. Handy if you only fish a few times a year or are travelling from Scotland.
- You can buy flies, basic terminal tackle and food in our Lodge. Hire rods also available. Cheeseburgers, Bacon or Sausage sarnies in fresh bakery bread buns. Tea/Coffee/Cold Drinks
- The fishery provides landing nets, so no need to have one stinking the boot out. Just pick one out the net bin on your way to the lakes.
- If you are just starting out, maybe book a lesson? All tackle provided. Booking essential. All details and website in the Noticeboard below.
