Fishing Report w/e 15th June

Best week of the season so far! It has certainly been a memorable few days. You might want to plan a trip here this week.

Not only has the fishing been off the scale, but we became a wedding venue for the first time. An unusual and really enjoyable deviation from the norm. Using the site as a wedding venue has worked incredibly well. Thank you to everyone who made it so seamless and special congratulations to the bride and groom. We really enjoyed having you all.

On to the fishing. Top rod of the week went to Matty Devine who used Buzzers, Cormorants and Nymphs for an incredible session… landing 31!!  Superb fishing as always Matty.

Ben Blake landed 33 over two bumper sessions using Smokers, Shuttlecocks and Nymphs. This included 8lb, 5lb and 4lb rainbow trout in successive casts. Keith Forster had a superb day, landing 26 fish – Dunnydeer was his best lake. Stuart Ingledew caught 19 using small beetles initially then black snakes fished very slowly when the fish stopped rising. Malcolm M had 17 using buzzers on the top lakes.

The catch list is endless and an estimated 50 people caught 5 or more fish. Not bad for a 6 day week – well done everyone. Other successful anglers included Andrew Keenan (10 on mixed methods); Peter Farmer (12 on buzzers and white lures), Rob Frame (14 on top hats); Mick Suckling (10 on buzzers and lures); Alec Harvey/ Colin Spillard (14 on dries); and Steve McMorn (15 on lures).

Many fish have been taking naturals aggressively very close to the reed beds, so it is no surprise a damsel nymph has been catching especially well late morning and early afternoon.

Fish have been seen grouping up a few rod lengths out and running repeat smash and grabs raids right under anglers feet. This doesn’t appear to be fry bashing either. (Although a shoal of perch was seen hammering fry on Chatton lake).

The Wednesday Night Club continues to be a big success with 23 people this week fishing on a discounted ticket (scroll down to Noticeboard below for details).  Unfortunately, it was the only time of the week the fishing wasn’t as consistent due to strong and variable winds all night. Maybe this week?!

The weather forecast is pretty much wall to wall sunshine for the week ahead. Lighter winds towards the weekend. Very pleasant. That should mean fishing deep may be the order of the day when the sun is highest in the sky. Don’t forget a Di-5 line or a deep fished indicator.

Mornings and evenings should see some fantastic rises as well. Top Hats, Shipmans, Griffiths Gnats or Hoppers in smaller sizes should do well. Don’t forget a damsel down the bank side either.

Predicted Fly Box

Griffiths Gnats, Damsel Nymphs, Top Hats, Emergers, Daddy Longlegs, Chatton Ships, Beetles.

See you all soon.

David, Gemma and Owen
