Fishing has been tough in the heat – better is expected this week.
Unsurprisingly things have been hard going this past week with very low catches overall. At least the high temperatures haven’t stuck around too long and we have more fish friendly weather forecast for the next few days. With light winds expected for the rest of the week and plenty of cloud cover, dry flies are once again expected to be your best bet.
Top rod this past week was David Parker, who landed 9 on Top Hats and Daddies, all off Dunnydeer. What makes David’s catch even more special was these were all on a 2hr ticket. Top fishing. Also on the podium for the week was the legend that is Willie Emery. Using a mix of dries and lures, Willie landed 8 fish, also off Dunnydeer. John Pringle also did well in the conditions, with 8 for his two short sessions on a mix of flies.
The big brown trout have been lying low recently, but Mr A Wade did manage to land a cracker of 6lb. John Brenand also had a 6lb fish.
13th August is date for your diaries if you have kids wanting to start fly fishing. We welcome Tweedstart, who are doing a free group coaching session. Full details in the Noticeboard below for what is a fantastic initiative.
As you may have already seen, we have taken the decision to cancel the 3 Fly Challenge this weekend. We will contact everyone who has entered.
With the remnants of the heatwave still lingering, there may be a little thunder and lightening knocking about. Come and have a cheeseburger and coffee in the lodge while it blows over. And don’t be surprised if the fish start appearing after heavy showers. It can bring on hatches of flies.
Predicted Fly Box
