Fishing Report w/e 26th October

All lakes fully stocked for half term. Fishing continues to be very good as demonstrated by the 1st Heat of the Eddie Brown Winter Series last Sunday.

28 anglers averaged an incredible 4.8 fish per angler during the competition in pretty miserable conditions. The top 8 going through to the final included 14 year old Zack Scott, who finished 7th overall in a list of time served, top class anglers. Very well done Zack and everyone who qualified. Definitely one to watch in the future. Heat 2 on Sunday, 9th November.

Fishing on the bait lake has been better recently and with the stocking just gone in, half term should be a bonanza. If you have no tackle, you can hire all the stuff you need here. For anyone fishing Chatton on any lake, we supply all landing nets – take one from the corner of the patio before your session and pop it back in the drum at the end.

On the fly lakes, it has been a quieter week for rod numbers but catches have still been good. Ryan Matthew and Craig Crompton shared 23 between them on bungs and lures during a short 4hr session. Top fishing lads. 11 was the number this week for Barry Nicholson, Simon Sharpe and Nathan Johnstone. Simon showing naturals are still a good option catching on beetles and buzzers. Zack also had 10 while practicing for the competition. A good week!

It is fair to say pulling tactics with lures such as snakes, worms and leeches on intermediate lines are coming to the fore. Fish are much more willing to chase now the water has cooled and will follow you all the way in – pay attention to lifting off has been mentioned a few times. Dry flies are still working, but conditions have to be spot on and best times are tending to be late morning when things have warmed up a touch. The fish are responding to small midge hatches so be prepared – they tend to be willing takers.

Finally, we bring the curtain down on the Caravan Park for the winter at the end of this week (2nd November). It will be back open again in Spring when we look forward to welcoming our regulars back. Thank you to every one of our customers this year. We hope you enjoyed the peace and quiet Chatton has to offer and see you in 2026.

Forecast: Fishing should remain very good with nothing drastic in the forecast. Winds generally light rising to breezy later in the week – all week from the S/SW. A good fishing direction. After today’s strong winds, things should calm down into a mix of sun, light showers and cloud.

Closing time now 5.00pm every day
