11lb Brown Trout for Ryan Wilson. Last week of Caravan Site season.
No doubt the highlight of the week was Ryan Wilsons capture of a Ross Lake Monster. A superb 11lb brown trout that has been in the lake for 4 months and to our knowledge has never been caught. Lets you see how long they can swim untroubled. Well done Ryan. Olive Leech was the fly.
As you may have seen last week, we also stocked some bigger than average fish now the weather is getting less summery. We still want it a little cooler before things pick up properly, but there are signs.
Both of the week’s top catches featured beetles fished dry – R Hume (13) and Simon Sharpe (10) doing the business, not for the first time. Well done lads. Susan Surgeon landed 4 fish on her first short session of the week on a Snake. Susan and her husband are staying on the caravan site and we’re hoping will build up a few fish to report on next week. It is a pretty good start.
Overall fishing remains slightly on the tough side, despite some brilliant highlights. If night time temperatures could drop a bit we’d be away and running, but for now we’re just fishing ok.
Dries will continue to outfish most methods for the foreseeable, but have a Plan B if the sun is shining down. Remember fish don’t have eyelids and can’t squint like humans, so they really aren’t keen at looking up when the sun is brightest. They will react in seconds if cloud covers it though, which is a why a dry fly rod is essential even if its not used all day. It means you can react quickly. We think dries will remain a major player till at least the end of October, but the weather will decide that.
Finally, Wednesday Night Club will be coming to an end soon and will be back next year. Final one on 30th Sept.
