Memory making fishing continues. All four lakes stocked again. Dry flies out-fishing everything.
Have a look at the weekly catches below and you’ll see dries have formed 95% of all the top performers last week. It doesn’t get much more conclusive than that. Once again Beetles have been top dogs, but if your fly floats, you have a great chance of catching. Keeping the size down might help when it comes to beetles as the naturals we get are pretty small. Size 16 down to 20 should do. Brown being the best colour. If the Hawthorns are about, try a Size 14.
With the expected weather predicted for this coming week, we expect surface sport to continue at a very high level, yet again. It is not just Beetles and Hawthorns either. We’re getting all sorts hatching, so you are are in contention for takes with CDCs, Sedges, Hoppers, Top Hats or Griffiths Gnats. The lakes are extremely healthy and you don’t really know whats going to start hatching next.
If the fish is head and tail rising, cast in front of it by a yard or two and hope it doesn’t change direction. Less flies on the surface mean direction change is less likely. But if the surface is covered, fish will change direction all the time, which can be a little annoying. Speaking of which, we are very close to Caenis season, which can drive anglers potty but also demonstrate just how many fish are in the lakes. June is prime time for these flies and muggy/thundery weather will see you get covered in them in the evenings. Watch out for small white/grey things landing on your arms – the good news is they don’t bite.
On one of the less pleasant weather days, we once again welcomed the Chatton Cadence Codgers. As you may have seen in a previous post, they had some fantastic fishing with a rod average of just under 10. Dries dominating catches as expected. Considering half the day will have been spent gassing, it is not a bad return. Well done lads and great to have you once again.
With the later finishes, Wednesday Night Clubs discounted ticket is starting to get more popular – details in Noticeboard below. Why not come along and try it?
