Fishing back to its best. Following successive cooler weeks, fish have settled back into more consistent feeding and this looks like continuing. Fantastic news after the summer doldrums. We introduced more fish at the end of last week which with the longer term residents – of which there are many – are now reappearing.
There have been many big catches but the most pleasing thing is the number of 5/6/7 or 8’s. Way too many to mention but lots of happy anglers leaving the car park.
The most notable thing on the returns is the reappearance of lures such as snakes and bunny leeches. Flies that have struggled to get takes over summer are now back on the agenda. Sink tips, hover lines and intermediates are likely to be your best bet for these with a variety of retrieves. Keep moving spots or changing flies for best results. And don’t underestimate an ultra slow retrieve with a long hang at the end of each cast.
Top rod for the week was Dean Headley, who landed 16 in one session on CDCs and 10 another day using Buzzers. Proof that naturals are still doing the job. Superb fishing Dean.
Mick Blackenden – 16 on Snakes and Apps.
David Parker – 15 on Black Snakes and Worms.
Stewart Younger – 13 on Snakes and Dries
D Bolland 11 on various flies
John Pringle- 16 over 2 sessions using Snakes and Top Hats
Matty Devine 9 on Bloodworm
Alec Harvey and Colin Spillard shared 17 fish using Snakes and Mop Flies.
Snakes very clearly the top fly of the week.
Plenty of fish in the 3lb to 8lb range with D Saunders 6lb Brownie probably the pick. Hopefully there’ll be plenty of big ones showing this next week as the trout friendly weather continues.
Forecast for the week ahead looks really pleasant for fishing and catching. Mostly sunshine and clouds with light to medium S/SE breeze almost the whole week. Keep the dry fly rod set up as theres a good chance the fish will feed on anything that hatches.
Closing time now 8pm (except Saturday, which is always 5pm).
Predicted Fly Box
Snakes (Black/White/ Olive), Black Bunny Leach, Daddies, Damsels, Diawl Bachs, Buzzers, Hares Ear, FABs.
See you all soon.
David, Gemma and Owen
