Another tricky week. Dries still best.
Once again, catch numbers have been down on average due to the summer temperatures. Fishing is trickier than normal, as it always is at this time of year. Chatton is lucky to have such deep cool water, so the likelihood is the fish are seeking that out through the day. Your best bet is fishing early and late, when we are having some superb rises. Fish deeper through the day unless the fish tell you otherwise.
Top rod once again was David Parker, who landed 9 fish off Ross Lake on dry flies. Outstanding as usual Davie. Also doing well on Ross Lake was John Pringle who had 8 on Nothing Flies the day after Davie’s catch. John had a consistent week landing fish each time on the same fly. Terry changed the tune from dries and had a good session landing 5 on buzzers – a fly that has chipped away pretty well this week.
We have had a lot of catches in the 2, 3 or 4 category, nearly all on dries. Well done to Colin Spillard, Ronnie Glass, Martin, Duncan Elliott, Adam Bettinson, Ian F, Busher, Rodney Burn, Ronnie Fox, Stewart Younger, Kenny and Andrew E. Some good catches by you all in tricky conditions.
Please can we ask that you sign out on the whiteboard if no-one is in the hut when you leave. Just a catch total and best flies. We can add these details to the main catch returns that form this report.
