Fishing Report w/e 29th June

In short, fishing up and down; new car park almost finished.

Overall catches were better than last week, but two sweltering days made sure it wasn’t plain sailing.

Huge credit has to go to Ian Rice who finished top rod of the week using a March Brown Dry. On a very windy day, Ian found the only calm bit of water on Ross Lake and had take after take around the corner from the 4th dam wall platform. The fish never let up and he ended on 15. Another brilliant session finished on 14 for Dan Davis who used an Olive Shipmans to great effect. Excellent fishing, Dan. Peter also reached double figures (11) on dries and Ronnie Glass had a good session with small dries fished in the margins. Max Anderson (7) did well using a Griffiths Gnat – rarely mentioned fly but one that does great at Chatton on tricky evenings. Try a Size 20 if they’re ignoring everything else.

Without doubt fishing on top has been the best method of the week but it has been difficult fishing for large parts. The warm weather has put them off their grub a little, so think about fly size a little more and maybe err towards smaller patterns.

We’ve had the Fishing For Everyone Ladies Fishing Club this week, returning three rainbow trout, missing loads and having a cracking day with Lucy Bowden. This is what fishing is all about if you’ve never tried it! Make new friends and give fly fishing a go in a no pressure environment.

Another change you may notice next time you come is the brand new car park. Diggers have been the past few days making more room and should be complete soon.

Hopefully no-one gets too exited about car parking, but it is another thing chalked off the improvements we’re doing to make the overall experience as good as it can be for everyone.

For anyone arriving on Saturday morning, don’t be surprised to find a busy car park. Those will be people leaving the all night fishing starting on Friday night.

The forecast for this one off event looks decent. The breeze is from the west, in which the fish bite best. 14mph+ might be pushing it for the dry fly enthusiasts though. It is going to be interesting seeing how catches compare to day time fishing. Details for the last few places in the Noticeboard below.

Predicted Fly Box
Griffiths Gnat, Damsel Nymphs, Diawl Bach, Top Hats, Emergers, Daddy Longlegs, Chatton Ships, Beetles.

See you all soon.

David, Gemma and Owen
